Alistair was schooled in Edinburgh and obtained a degree in Natural Sciences (Physics) from the University of Cambridge. He also has a PhD from Cambridge University Institute of Biotechnology. During his PhD, he was a member of a team which won the BBSRC New Entrepreneurs' Prize. Before becoming a Patent Attorney, Alistair worked as a research scientist for a Cambridge-based technology company.

Alistair began his career in intellectual property in Glasgow. He then spent a number of years working for a leading firm of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys in Cambridge before returning to Scotland to found Hindle Lowther in 2005.

Alistair has particular expertise in relation to the drafting of new patent applications and has already drafted significantly more patent applications than many Patent Attorneys do in their entire career. He has also provided patentability and infringement opinions in relation to extremely high value products.

His technical background and professional experience have enabled him to develop a high level of expertise in relation to the protection of physics, computer software, and biotechnology inventions.

Joanna has a First Class Honours degree in Chemistry from Imperial College, University of London, and has been called to the Bar of England and Wales. Prior to setting up Hindle Lowther, Joanna worked for top-tier intellectual property solicitors, Bristows, and one of the UK's largest firms of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys.

Joanna has considerable experience in relation to trade mark searching, the filing and prosecution of trade mark applications throughout the world, and opposition, revocation and invalidity proceedings. She also advises on registered design issues.

Joanna's clients have included some of the world's leading brand owners in various business sectors. She also has considerable experience of advising start-ups and SMEs.

Joanna has previously acted as a tutor for the qualifying examinations for entry onto the Register of Trade Mark Agents and is a member of the Pharmaceutical Trade Mark Group.
